Bringing Home the Medals

We are proud to announce that three WhiteWave products were chosen by Prevention Magazine in its 100 Cleanest Packaged Food Awards of 2014. Silk’s Organic Unsweetened Soymilk, Horizon’s Organic Whole Milk and Earthbound Farm’s Tomatillo, Black Bean, and Baby Lettuce PowerMeal were all chosen as products that met and exceeded the criteria set by Prevention Magazine:

  • Must have no more than 10 g of added sugar
  • Must have less than 200 mg of sodium per serving (or 400 mg for meals)
  • All cans must be free of BPA
  • All fish must be sustainable, according to Monterey Bay Aquarium seafood criteria
  • All foods had to be absolutely delicious

Prevention had only compliments for Silk’s Organic Unsweetened Soymilk, it captured a spot in the beverage list:

“With no added sugar and 7 grams of protein, it’s the ultimate cereal-splasher for the dairy-free crowd. Just a cup provides 30% of your daily calcium and vitamin D, plus half of your B12 allotment. Make ours a soymilk mustache.”

Also in the beverage category, Prevention praised the natural values of Horizon Organic Whole Milk:

Finally, Prevention expressed its affection for Earthbound Farm’s  Tomatillo, Black Bean, and Baby Lettuce PowerMeal:

The good news continued on Thursday morning. Siobhan O’Connor, Prevention Magazine’s executive editor, appeared on fourth hour of The Today Show, with hosts Kathie-Lee and Hoda, to detail 20 of the 100 Cleanest Packaged Foods Award winners. The segment featured Silk Organic Unsweetened Soymilk and Horizon Organic Whole Milk. O’Connor praised the quality of our Silk beverage and said, “Soy milk is often chalky and high in sugar, this is neither – this is Silk, organic, nice and smooth.”

Horizon Mac & Cheese


Happy Valentine’s Day

Valentine’s Melting Heart Cookies

Yield: 30-35 cookies

Difficulty: Moderate

Prep Time: 15 minutes

Cooking Time: 12-15 minutes per batch

These delicious cookies have a sweet heart of deep dark chocolate. 


3 tablespoons canola oil
1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa
2 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 teaspoon instant espresso powder (if desired)

1 cup Horizon Organic unsalted butter, softened

1 cup sugar
2 large Horizon Organic eggs
2-1/4 cups unbleached all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt

Chocolate Filling
4 ounces bittersweet chocolate, finely chopped

1/4 cup Horizon Organic whipping cream 


Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease, spray or line baking sheets with parchment paper.

In a small bowl, whisk together oil, cocoa, vanilla and espresso powder until smooth. Set aside.

In an another bowl cream butter and sugar until pale yellow and fluffy. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Add cocoa mixture to butter mixture, stirring until completely combined.

Sift together flour, soda and salt and add to the chocolate mixture, mixing until combined. (Dough will be quite stiff.)

Using a soup spoon, scoop balls and place 1 inch apart on prepared baking sheets. Bake 12 to 15 minutes until tops bounce back when lightly pressed.

Allow to cool for 5 minutes on baking sheets, then transfer to cooling racks. While cookies are still warm, use the back of a teaspoon to gently press an indentation in the center of each cookie.

Meanwhile, make Chocolate Filling:

In a small saucepan, heat cream to boiling, then remove from heat and quickly pour over chopped chocolate. Let stand for 3 minutes then whisk until chocolate has melted and mixture is smooth.

To finish, scoop a teaspoon of filling into the center of each cookie. Cool and serve. Cookies may be stored, tightly covered, at room temperature for 2-3 days or frozen up to 2 months.

Our Channels Convenience Store Marketing and Sales teams attended the NACS (National Association of Convenience Stores) Show in Atlanta in October. The NACS Show brings together convenience and fuel retailing industry professionals from across the world and is the number one buying show in the U. S., according to Exhibit Surveys, Inc.  WhiteWave exhibited a wide range of International Delight products at the show and introduced the new ID bulk Iced Coffee machines that are made for bulk dispensing.

More than 26,000 people and 1,200 exhibitors attended this year’s four-day show that was held at the Atlanta World Congress Center.

International Delight bulk Iced Coffee was named the Top Retailer pick in the Cool New Products category and the WhiteWave booth was awarded the Top Exhibit in the bronze Hunter’s Club division.

Two Events for CFS

Third Annual Milk Ride

On Saturday morning, October 26, members of WhiteWave’s leadership team hosted a bike ride in Boulder to benefit Community Food Share (CFS), a hunger relief organization that provides more than seven million meals each year to those in need in Boulder and Broomfield, Colo. Counties. For every WhiteWave employee who joined the ride, the company made a cash donation to CFS.

The WhiteWave team consisted of 15 cyclists, and the group donated $400 to CFS to help provide 1,600 meals to those in need in Boulder and Broomfield, Colo. Nice work, cyclists!

Cans, Tubs and Cash for CFS

As part of WhiteWave’s Share What We Do Well Month, our Research & Development and Sustainability teams held a food drive for CFS.

Through the team’s food drive, WhiteWave donated:

  • 88 pounds of canned food
  • 23 pounds of yogurt
  • $30 in cash, which is equivalent to 120 meals
