The Venus de Miles cycling event which celebrates leadership, volunteerism, sisterhood, and the environment, was set to take place on Sept. 29 in Boulder County. Due to the recent floods in the area, the event was cancelled. In lieu of the biking event, riders were given the opportunity to have fun while helping out others in need.
A group of 25 Venus de Miles riders, including a handful of women from WhiteWave, showed up at Mudslingers, a community organized flood relief group, to spend the day helping people impacted by the floods.
The group worked on a farm north of Boulder that had suffered great devastation to its land and barn. Together, they dug two feet of mud out of the barn, moved truckloads of unsalvageable items to a dump station and dug out trees so their roots could survive.
At the end of the day, the women cleaned up and attended the Venus de Miles celebration where they were treated to great food and drinks, and a tremendous sense of community.
