We Did It!

Another record setting Community Food Share “Compete to Beat Hunger” Corporate Challenge has come to close. Community Food Share (CFS) is a hunger relief organization that provides more than seven million meals each year to those in need in Boulder and Broomfield, Colo. Counties. Preliminary numbers from the corporate challenge are showing WhiteWave employees raised $88,865 through online donations and events held at our office. We totally blew our fundraising goal of $63,000 out of the water and I’m thrilled!

In addition, to commemorate our spin-off from Dean Foods, we increased our corporate match from $1 to $1.50, which brings our total contribution to CFS to $222,162.50 or 888,650 meals to feed those in need in Boulder and Broomfield counties. Community Food Share couldn’t be more pleased with our generous donation and I had so much fun being part of the Corporate Challenge planning efforts. Can’t wait to do it again next year!

In other fundraising news, for the first year we invited our regional sales offices, plants and farms to raise money for their local Feeding America food banks during the same timeframe to make an impact in their local communities. Results are still rolling in, but so far our regional sales offices have raised enough money to provide 4,000 meals to help those in need. Very impressive!

A New Chapter for the WhiteWave Foods Company

Today is the start of a new chapter for the WhiteWave Foods Company. As of close of business yesterday, our spin-off from Dean Foods was complete, making WhiteWave an independent company. As such, WhiteWave is well positioned for sustained future growth thanks to our strong brands in growing categories that are aligned with favorable, long-term consumer preferences.

While we’re excited about our future as an independent company, nothing is changing when it comes to the great-tasting, nutritious and responsibly produced Horizon Organic, Silk, International Delight and Alpro products our consumers have come to know and love. Consumers will still be able to shop for all of their favorite WhiteWave products just as they’ve done in the past.

As an independent company, we’re remaining committed to initiatives and causes our consumers, employees and partners care about, including sustainability. We strongly believe in the power of our business and brands to make meaningful change, and we’re making strong progress against our sustainability goals:

  • In the U.S., we’ve met our 2013 greenhouse gas reduction goal of 25 percent over a 2006 baseline. We’ve also exceeded our waste to landfill reduction goal of 30 percent over a 2007 baseline by 15 percent.
  • Also in the U.S., we have reduced non-ingredient water ingredient water use by 8 percent. Our goal is a 15 percent reduction by 2013 over a 2008 baseline, providing an opportunity for continued improvement.
  • In Europe, despite increases in production volumes of 17 percent since 2008, Alpro has succeeded in cutting its waste in half and further reducing its plants’ carbon emissions by 14 percent over the same time period. The goal of achieving carbon-neutral production facilities remains a key area of focus for Alpro.

We’re also remaining steadfast in our commitment to making a difference for those in need. In North America, one of our most substantial and enduring partnerships is with Community Food Share, a hunger relief organization located near our North American location in Broomfield, Colo. In Europe, one way we drive positive change is through Alpro’s partnership with the World Wildlife Fund, one of the largest and most respected international environmental organizations. In celebration of our newly independent status, additional contributions are being made to help further the causes of hunger relief and sustainable development.

As we look to the future, our focus rests squarely on uniting the spirit and principles of small food with the resources of an established food and beverage leader to change the way the world eats for the better. We know it’s a lofty goal, but it’s one we strongly believe in and are dedicated to making a reality.

Here are a couple photos from our employee event marking the new chapter for the WhiteWave Foods Company.

  • International Delight Light Mocha Iced Coffee: “With just a hint of coffee, this grown-up chocolate milk is rich and sweet, yet weighs in at only 100 calories per cup.”

WhiteWave and the BolderBOULDER – more than just a sponsorship

Brian Allen from our Horizon sales team was on Denver’s 9News this morning to talk about WhiteWave’s sponsorship of the BolderBOULDER and the company’s training program for all employees in our Broomfield office. WhiteWave’s training program with Ric Rojas supports the health and wellness of Broomfield-based employees and is an example of how WhiteWave is working to become a different kind of food company.

The BolderBOULDER 10k is held on Memorial Day (this Monday!) and this year, WhiteWave has 80 employees registered to run the race.

Community Food Share Corporate Challenge Heats Up

In keeping with our goal to change the way the world eats for the better, WhiteWave is participating in the Community Food Share Compete to Beat Hunger Corporate Challenge. Community Food Share (CFS) is a hunger-relief organization in Boulder and Broomfield counties which helps feed one in six county residents who live at or below the poverty line.

This is WhiteWave’s ninth year participating in the Corporate Challenge to raise money for CFS and our fundraising tactics have evolved over the years into one week of grassroots fundraising events that build community and create a little friendly competition between departments at our Broomfield headquarters. Right now at our office, we have more than 20 fundraising events taking place ranging from hosting raffles and kickball games, to selling cupcakes, homemade lip balm and pie sales.

This is my first year being involved with Corporate Challenge and it’s a blast! Everyone is so creative with their fundraising event ideas which makes it easy to give generously to CFS. So far, we’ve raised over 50 percent of our fundraising goal and the challenge is not yet over. I’m confident that WhiteWave will meet our fundraising goal this year!
