Last week, we hosted a breakfast to “Share What We Do Well” (one of our new company Values!) and by inviting local businesses to stop in and learn more about how we’ve taken our support of Community Food Share’s (CFS) annual “Compete to Beat Hunger” corporate challenge to a whole new level over the past eight years.
Hunger is a reality for many in Boulder and Broomfield counties, and the recent economic downturn has dramatically increased the needs of those in our community, as well as the needs of CFS, an organization that serves nearly 650 families each week.
At WhiteWave, food security is an important part of living our Mission of becoming the Earth’s favorite food company. This year, our goal is to raise $55,000 from WhiteWave employees, combine that with a $50,000 corporate match, and enable CFS to distribute 420,000 meals!
About 30 people joined us at our Corporate Challenge kick-off breakfast to learn more about what we do here at WhiteWave to entice our employees to contribute during the challenge. Together, we brainstormed and shared strategies and tactics for how we can all raise as much money as possible for a great local organization.
Carolina Fryer, one of our lead internal volunteers for the corporate challenge, spoke with attendees about some of the innovative, grassroots efforts that different people and teams at WhiteWave have organized to help raise money for the Challenge, including: kickball competitions, raffles, bake sales, poker tournaments and much, much more. Each person at WhiteWave is committed to finding fun, innovative ways to build camaraderie and make an even bigger difference in the lives of those who benefit from this effort. A little giving can go a long way. In fact, CFS is able to turn every dollar raised into four meals. Pretty incredible!
Through these various creative initiatives, we’ve been able to make a real impact —the total number of meals we’ve provided through our long-running partnership with CFS will soon surpass 2.5 million! Sharing how we’ve accomplished that with other valued members of the business community who want to do the same thing is part of how we can make an even bigger difference.
Stay tuned to the Grazing Mind to see how we’re bringing the challenge to life at WhiteWave this year.
